The Act came into force on 15 August 1973, with the exception of sections 13 to 18, which entered into force on 11 March 1974.
Abstract

The present law has been enacted to establish the National Tobacco Board, which is intended to the improvement and proper conduct of the tobacco producing industry in Malaysia. Part II of the Act lays down provisions with respect to the setting up and the functions of the Board. Part III, which is entitled “Regulation and Control”, sets forth some prohibitions relating to cured tobacco. In particular, to purchase and sell cured tobacco, a licence is needed. Moreover, a license is required too for carrying on the business of curing tobacco, as well as for the storage and possession of cured tobacco. Section 18 refers to the penalty to be applied in case of contravention. Part IV of the Act regards finance, report and ministerial supervision. Section 25 provides for the establishment of the Tobacco Industry Board Fund, devoted to financing the activities hereby referred to. Part V lays down detailed provisions concerning the enforcement of these provisions through inspections performed by the competent officers and related penalties to be applied in case of violation of the Act, including seizure.
