One of these requirements is that organizations should develop, implement and maintain mandatory pre-action programs to help manage food safety risks (clause 7 of ISO 22000:2005). This International Standard is intended to be used as a support for management systems developed in accordance with the requirements contained in ISO 22000:2005. and establishes detailed requirements for the aforementioned programs. This National Standard specifies requirements for the development, implementation and enforcement of Prerequisite Required Action Programs (PRPs)* to assist in risk management. related to food safety. This International Standard is applicable to all organizations, regardless of size or complexity, that are involved in the production chain of the food chain and intend to implement a mandatory food safety program in a manner that meets the requirements specified in Clause 7 of ISO 22000:2005. This National Standard is not intended for use elsewhere in the food chain. Food production activities are diverse in nature and not all of the requirements specified in this National Standard are applicable to a particular establishment or process. This National Standard details the requirements that are directly relevant to 7.2.3 of ISO 22000:2005 for: (a) the design and layout of buildings and engineering systems; (b) the layout of the premises, including work areas and amenity areas; (c) supply of air, electricity and other energy carriers; (d) ancillary services, including waste and wastewater systems; (e) equipment suitability and availability for cleaning, maintenance and preventive maintenance; (f) management of purchased materials; (g) measures to prevent cross-contamination; (h) cleaning and sanitizing; (i) pest control; (j) personal hygiene; (k) products subject to processing; (l) product recall procedures; (m) storage in warehouses; (n) product information and consumer awareness; and (o) product protection, biovigilance and bioterrorism.
