Abstract

This Notice sets out national principles, norms and standards for the sustainable management of large predator stock in South Africa. Existing operations shall, after a grace period, be in conformity with such principles, norms and standards. The Notice applies to both large predators in the wild and managed wild populations of large predators, but also contains rules relative to captive large predators. The rules relative to wild predators concern the habitat, hunting, use of predators for re-establishment purposes, prey, capture and release. Captive operations shall be subject to environmental impact assessment. The Notice also contains control measures for animals causing damage.
