Abstract This National Hazardous Waste Management Plan is a nationwide sectoral document that reviews the 2008 - 2012 Plan and aims at improving the management of hazardous waste by implementing the following 4 main objectives (i) prevent and reduce the generation of hazardous waste by industry and society generally; (ii) maximise the collection of hazardous waste with a view to reducing the environmental and health impacts of any unregulated waste; (iii) strive for increased self-sufficiency in the management of hazardous waste and to minimise hazardous waste export; and (iv) minimise the environmental, health, social and economic impacts of hazardous waste generation and management.
