Abstract The National Forest Framework is a strategic instrument related to the period 2016-2030, which aims at sustainable forest management and whose overall goal is to develop and sustainably manage, conserve, restore and utilise forests and allied resources for socio-economic growth and climate resilience. The strategic objectives are: a) increase tree cover and reverse forest degradation through sustainable forest management; b) enhance forest-based economic, social and environmental benefits including by improving the livelihoods of forest-dependent people; c) enhance capacity development, research and adoption of technologies to increase value adding to forest products; d) create an enabling environment for mobilizing resources and investment to spur forest development; and e) inculcate good forest governance through integrating national values and principles of governance in forest development.
