Abstract

This Notice of the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, made under sections 53, 55, 56 and 57 of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 2004, introduce Regulations that regulate the management and phasing out of the use of polychlorinated biphenyls materials and polychlorinated biphenyls contaminated materials. They prohibit the production, import, export, use or placing on the market of any ozone-depleting substances and equipment or products that contain such substances. The Regulations also provide for the authorized recovery of halons and other ozone-depleting substances, prohibit the stockpiling of ozone depleting substances listing in Schedule 1 to these Regulations and provide for the reporting by importers and exporters on their trade in ozone-depleting substances.
