Abstract

The AFMA National Compliance Operations and Enforcement Policy establishes the framework on which AFMA’s National (Domestic) Compliance and Enforcement Program is based. It provides: a guide to AFMA on its compliance and enforcementrole; a broad explanation of AFMA’s compliance and enforcement role under the legislation it administers; an explanation of AFMA’s risk based approach; an explanation of how AFMA determines the appropriate action to take in a particular risk event; an outline of the enforcement actions available under the legislation AFMA administers; a clear framework for maintaining the integrity of fisheries management arrangements, provided through accountability, consultation and cooperation for the community and AFMA; a foundation for consistent, integrated and coordinated enforcement action across Commonwealth fisheries.
