Abstract

This National Action Plan on the Safe Use of Pesticides is a nationwide sectoral document that revises the NAP of 2012 and aimt at (i) implementing the programme to reduce the adverse effects of plant protection products in accordance with the Directive 2009/128/EC; (ii) reducing risks and limiting the impacts of the use of the preparations on human health and the environment; and (iii) supporting the development and implementation of Integrated Plant Protection (IPP) and alternative approaches or procedures to reduce dependence on the use of the preparations. The document covers the following three areas that are or may be affected by negative impacts caused by the use of plant protection products (i) human health to prevent poisoning or other potential harm or threat resulting from accidents and the careless use of plant protection products, and the risks resulting from the consumption of foodstuffs with over-limit contents of residues and the monitoring of foodstuffs containing residues; (ii) protection of ground and surface waters, in particular sources intended for waterworks use; and (iii) protection of non-target living organisms (plants, invertebrates, vertebrates), directly or indirectly (via the food chain), endangered by the use of preparations in agricultural and forest ecosystems.
