Subject Food & nutrition, Water Keyword Milk/dairy products Inspection Hygiene/sanitary procedures Processing/handling Food quality control/food safety Water supply Geographical area Asia, Asia and the Pacific, Indian Ocean, South Asian Seas, Southern Asia Abstract The Ordinance provides for the municipal dairies, prescribing the institution of a register of both dairymen and milk sellers, the carrying out of inspections at any time to assess compliance with sanitary requirements, to evaluate eventual pollution of the water supply serving the dairy. Any dairyman or milk seller shall apply for registration before starting any production or business and the document attesting its registration shall be affixed in the premises. Any animal or human disease possibly affecting the milk production shall be immediately reported to the competent authorities and, if spread of the same infectious disease is found to be related to milk supplied or sold , production and distribution shall be interrupted and the whereabouts of all consumers given in order to assess if they could have been harmed by the milk itself. Milk shall be handled and stored in safe conditions and violators of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be fined up to two hundred rupees.
