An Act to consolidate and amend the law relating to cooperative societies, with objects not confined to one State and serving the interests of members in more than one State, to facilitate the voluntary formation and democratic functioning of cooperatives as people’s institutions based on self-help and mutual aid and to enable them to promote their economic and social betterment and to provide functional autonomy and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Abstract

This Act, consisting of 15 Chapters and two Schedules, shall apply to a) all cooperative societies, with objects not confined to one State which were incorporated before the commencement of this Act (i) under the Cooperative Societies Act, 1912 (No. 2 of 1912), or (ii) under any other law relating to cooperative societies in force in any State or in pursuance of the Multi-unit Cooperative Societies Act, 1942 or the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984. This Act aims to consolidate and amend the law relating to cooperative societies, with objects not confined to one State and serving the interests of members in more than one State, to facilitate the voluntary formation and democratic functioning of cooperatives as people’s institutions based on self-help and mutual aid and to enable them to promote their economic and social betterment and to provide functional autonomy.
