Abstract This Law consisting of 10 articles aims at defining tasks and goals of the Ministry of Environment and its associated directorates and organizing the functions of each of them. Tasks of the Ministry are: propose the general policy for the protection of the environment from pollution; conduct tests on the environmental contaminants and factors affecting the safety of the environment in coordination with the concerned ministries and bodies; develop annual, medium and long term plans to protect and improve the environment; enforce conventions, treaties and protocols related to the environment approved by the federal government; removing and treating the effects of chemical weapons; encourage studies and research on the protection and improvement of the environment; raise the environmental awareness among the population; assess the environmental impact of current and future projects; protecting humans and the environment from the risks of ionizing radiation; establish principles for treatment of waste and harmful and hazardous materials.
