This Resolution enters into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Abstract

This Resolution consisting of 7 articles aims at regulating shark fishing in the Emirates. It establishes that: capture of sharks is limited to motor vessels allowed by the Ministry of Environment and Water; the owner of the vessel has to be a UAE citizen and needs a fishing license; shark capture shall be limited to using hooks numbers (1 and 2), provided that the number of hooks shall not exceed 100 hooks per vessel. The duration of the fishing season is May – December. The Resolution establishes also distance from costs and coral reefs where is allowed fishing and rules for vessels’ owners. It prohibits capture of wales sharks and capture of sharks for their fins. It is also prohibited to throw the sharks body or part thereof in the sea.
