This Ministerial Order enters into force on 1 January and expires on 15 March 2024.
Abstract

This Ministerial Order, under Law No. 22/2013, establishes the effective prohibition on surface shrimp fishing, in the period from January 1, 2024 to March 14, 2024, throughout Maputo Bay to the south and west of a line that joins Cabo da Inhaca and Ponta da Macaneta. Fish processing and sale establishments from semi-industrial and artisanal fishing, including operators who purchase, store, sell and transport fish, are prohibited from purchasing, transporting, handling, process or sell shrimp and their accompanying fauna within this period. The prohibition period applies exclusively to the following fishing vessels, fishing gear, fish transport and establishments: a) gill nets known as “chithamuthamo”; b) purse-seine to land and onboard trawl nets (manual and motor); c) bottom gill nets; d) wholesale and retail fish sale establishments; e) vehicles and other means used to transport fish; f) fish processing establishments; g) all fishing vessels used to capture surface shrimp.
