Abstract This Ministerial Order aims to regulate the organization and functioning of the National Institution of the Sea (INAMAR, IP), created by Decree No. 88/2021 of 28 October. It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of INAMAR, entitled to perform the following activities: a) exercise of maritime authority in the areas of marine, freshwater and coastal zones jurisdiction, as well as safety and protection; b) planning of maritime space and the public domain of the coastal zone; c) supervise activities in the marine, freshwater areas and the maritime public domain of the coastal zone, as well as comply with standards relating to the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems and the conditions of conservation and exploitation of marine conservation areas; d) develop and apply measures ensuring the sustainable exploration, conservation and preservation of aquatic ecosystems; and e) carry out and/or coordinate rescue activities, as well as the salvage of goods, in maritime, freshwater areas, with the involvement of other competent entities.
