Abstract The Decision sets forth the institutional framework of establishment and operation of the Management Body of Prespa National Park. The institution of this Body is established as foreseen under article 13 of Law No. 3044/2002. This Joint Decision by the Ministers of Agriculture, Environment and Development, Physical Planning and Public Works, establishes the Management Agency Prespa National Park for the administration, management and protection of the region, the number of Board members and the exact constitution of the Agency. The Agency is run by a nine-member governing Council composed of representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Development, Rural Development and Food and Foreign Affairs, the Prefecture of Florina, the agricultural and fisheries cooperatives, the municipality of Prespa, civil society associations active on protection issues of Prespa and technical officers. The main purpose of the Management Agency Prespa National Park is to protect and conserve the biological diversity of the region, according to the principals of sustainable development while its responsibilities focus on protecting and guarding the area, informing, raising awareness and providing environmental education for the public through the organization of conferences, workshops, exhibitions and general promotional activities, development of ecotourism, training studies, etc. At the same time may approve scientific research and issue quality labels to commercial companies active in the region and to support volunteerism through special programs.
