Abstract

A Decree prescribing restrictive provisions related to the use of pesticides containing the substance "2, 3 D"; it prescribes the mandatory information to be carried on the label of such products: on the label of pesticides containing "2, 3 D" must appear, as from 1/1/1988 onwards: the toxicological classification; hazard symbols, using the appropriate graphic symbol (St. Andrew's cross) that warn of danger, together with clear and concise indications as to the degree and kind of such danger; instructions indicating crops, pests or diseases for which these products have been officially approved; safety interval, referring to the statement of the period which should elapse between the last application of the product and the harvest of plant products; safety precautions, including standard statements designed to inform the user clearly how to handle the product with a minimum of hazard (e.g. protective clothes to be worn, what to do in case of contamination, etc.); first-aid instructions and antidotal measures indicating the measures to be taken in case of poisoning. As from 1.09.1988 onwards, all imported quantities of "2, 3 D" must be accompanied by an official certificate stating that in the chemical composition of such products the percentage of Dioxin does not exceed the 0,1 PPM. The quality of such products must be in compliance with the technical specification recommended by FAO ( FAO Specification on the "rhenoxya kanoic herbicides").
