Abstract

This Ministerial decree establishes that water protection zone shall be set for the prevention of pollution, choking and exhaustion of surface water, maintenance of waterbodies and waterworks in accordance with sanitary, epidemiological and ecological requirements, and also with a view of conservation of wild flora and fauna. Water protection zone shall be considered area adjacent to waterbodies and waterworks. Water protection belts of the breadth of no less than 20 metres with limited economic activity therein shall be separated within water protection zones. Minimum breadth of water protection zones on each bank shall be calculated as average multiannual low water level of the water edge in the period of flood and the following additional distance: (a) for small rivers (200 kilometre long) – 500 metres; (b) for other rivers with favourable ecological situation at watersheds – 500 metres; and (c) for rivers with strained ecological situation at watersheds – 1000 metres.
