Abstract This Ministerial Decree establishes rules for the performance of agricultural plant variety testing. Sample seed and planting material imported into the Republic of Kazakhstan for plant variety testing shall be accompanied by phytosanitary certificate and documents certifying their variety and sowing qualities. Sample of seed and planting material incoming for variety testing, must be free from foreign impurities, seeds of other plants, and should not be drained, etched, except for cases provided for in the agreement between the State Commission and the applicant. Sample seed and planting material provided for testing shall have an internal and external label containing: (a) the name of the variety (if the name has not yet been determined – breeding number). The name of the foreign variety shall be written down in the language of the applicant and in transcription of the state or Russian language; and (b) the name of the variety and species (in Latin and state or Russian) languages). The applicant also sends a sample to the State Commission (grade standard), including herbarium, seeds, tubers, bulbs, cuttings, inflorescences (spikes, panicles, cobs and other parts of plants) for the formation and permanent storage of the seed variety gene pool. The State Commission may use the test results performed by other organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as by other States with which the relevant treaties have been concluded and the data submitted by the applicant.
