Abstract Vehicles with maximum gross weight of 4 tons or inferior transporting meat from slaughterhouses to markets and butcheries and in general serve the internal market of urban centres and cities shall fulfil the requirements set forth by this Decree regarding materials used, refrigerator storage temperatures, thermal isolation of meat, distinguishing marks to be affixed on vehicles, etc. Such means of meat transport (wagons, lorries, containers and other similar equipment) shall be clean and respect all hygiene requirements. For circulation, they must be provided with a special authorisation issued by the local veterinary services of the prefectures which shall be renewed annually as provided for in Presidential Decree No. 40/77, paragraph 6.
