The main tasks of the Committee shall be: (a) state supervision over environmental protection, management and reproduction of natural resources; (b) interdepartmental coordination of environmental protection; (c) elaboration and implementation of common energy saving policy; and (d) improvement of environmental situation. The Committee shall carry out the following functions: (a) elaboration and validation of environmental standards, rules and regulations, and also registration of natural resources; (b) pollution control; (c) validation of maximum allowable limits of emissions and discharge of pollutants; (d) environmental audit; (e) environmental monitoring; and (e) management of protected areas.
