The Red Book shall be the main scientific document determining the contemporary state of endangered and protected animals and plants and shall be destined for long-term prognostication and elaboration of practical arrangements aimed at the protection, reproduction and rational management of endangered and protected animals and plants. Animals and plants (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes, invertebrates, higher plants) that are rare or endangered and need protection shall be recorded in the Red Book. The grounds for the recording in the Red Book of animals and plants shall be data on the change in number, area and living conditions thereof requiring the adoption of the protective arrangements. The Red Book shall contain the following data: (1) the list of species with the name in Russian, Latin and Belarusian, natural habitats, population, reproduction (including reproduction in captivity); (2) protective arrangements; (3) sources of information; (4) map of natural habitats and vegetation areas of all recorded species; (5) photographs or drawings of animals and plants.
