Ministerial Decree No. 140384 establishing the National Network for monitoring of the quality and quantity of waters, determining the stations for measurements and the competent authorities for their operation, in compliance with article 4, paragraph of 4 of Law No. 3199/2003.

Aim of the present Decree is the establishment of a National Network for monitoring the quality and quantity of surface and underground waters, as such waters are defined in article 2, paragraph 2 of Law No. 3199/2003, so as to achieve a more comprehensive overview on the situation of the waters in the country, according to article 4, paragraph 4 of the same law. Aim of the National Network is to monitor and follow-up the quantitative and qualitative conditions of the surface and underground waters in the fourteen water departments of the country, as are defined with Presidential Decree No. 51/2007. The Special Secretariat of Waters under the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climatic Change shall be the competent authority for: a) the development and operation of the National Network; b) the monitoring and follow-up at a national level of quality and quantity surface and underground waters in collaboration with the decentralized Water Directorates of the country; c) the submission of annual reports and annual budget of the National Network operational costs. The documents will be compiled by data received by the state institutions involved in the process of monitoring.
