Abstract

The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as waterfowl habitat (Ramsar, 1971) has been implemented by Italy by adopting Presidential Decree No. 448 of 13 March 1976. As provided for in article 2 of the Convention, each contracting party shall designate suitable wetlands within its territory for inclusion in a List of Wetlands of International Importance. On the basis of that provision, the present Decree designates the “Oasi di Castelvorturno o Varicosi” to be a wetland of international importance for the purposes of the Convention, since it constitutes a significant habitat during migratory periods for a number of waterfowl species, including those listed out in the Preamble. The boundaries are those defined in the planimetry attached.
