As provided for in article 2 of the Convention, each contracting party shall designate suitable wetlands within its territory for inclusion in a List of Wetlands of International Importance. On the basis of that provision, the present Decree designates the “Oasi di Castelvorturno o Varicosi” to be a wetland of international importance for the purposes of the Convention, since it constitutes a significant habitat during migratory periods for a number of waterfowl species, including those listed out in the Preamble.
