Abstract

The present Act lays down provisions relating to mines and mining. The Act contains at the outset a definition clause relating to various terms therein employed, such as “mine”, “mining activity”, “abandoned mine”, “closed mine”, “detrimental environmental impact”, “cultural heritage resource”. Section 11 establishes if a person acquires a mine, before the person engages in mining activity the person must apply to the chief inspector to (a) obtain a permit, or (b) amend an existing permit for the mine to identify the applicant as the holder of the permit. Furthermore, at any time an inspector may inspect a mine or a site considered by the inspector to be a mining activity site that is operating without a permit. The text consists of 38 sections.
