The objects of this Act are as follows: (a) to establish a framework for granting and regulating mineral titles that authorise exploration for, and extraction and processing of, minerals and extractive minerals; (b) to facilitate the commercialisation of activities conducted under mineral titles by authorising the creation and transfer of interests in the titles; (c) to authorise other activities relating to minerals or extractive minerals to be conducted without mineral titles. This Act operates in conjunction with the Mining Management Act, which deals with the authorisation and management of exploration for, and extraction and processing of, minerals or extractive minerals to ensure the protection of the environment.
