Milk and Dairies (Scotland) Regulations 1990 (S.I. No. 2507 (S. 209) of 1990). Country/Territory United Kingdom Territorial subdivision Scotland Document type Regulation Date 1990 Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Food & nutrition Keyword Hygiene/sanitary procedures Milk/dairy products Food quality control/food safety Treated food Processing/handling Transport/storage Authorization/permit Inspection Geographical area Atlantic Ocean Islands, Europe, Europe and Central Asia, North Atlantic, North Sea, North-East Atlantic, Northern Europe Abstract These Regulations introduce in Scotland a new system of licensing of dairymen instead of the previous system of registration. A dairyman (any person carrying on the business of a dairy) will now be required to have his or her business licensed by the food authority, a food authority being an islands or district council. These Regulations do not apply to shops selling pre-packed milk and consequently the Regulations contain a new definition of “dairy” which excludes shops. the Regulations also provide for inspection of licensed dairies and hygienic conditions of production, handling, storage and sale of milk. Aim of these measures is, among other things to prevent contamination of milk and milk being affected by diseases. Full text English Website www.opsi.gov.uk
