Abstract

This Code governs the public relations in the Republic of Bulgaria that arise in relation to merchant shipping and control, the requirements for the Bulgarian affiliation of the ships, requirements for shipping and transport documents, rights and the obligations of masters and crews, contracts for the carriage of cargo, passengers and baggage, rights in rem in ships, ship rental contracts, ship insurance contracts and cargo, shipwrecks, sea and river rescue, and more relations related to shipping and its safety (for both inland and sea navigation). A merchant ship within the meaning of this Code is any self-propelled or a non-self-propelled vessel or craft, intended for navigation and for carrying out the activities under article 3 of this text, with the exception of those anchored in the waters of the ports floating docks and floating workshops designed for shipbuilding and/or ship repair.
