Abstract These Rules aim at implementing at Meghalaya regional level the provisions of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. In exercise of the powers conferred by sub section (1) of Section 63, of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 (No. 18 of 2003) the Government of Meghalaya makes the following rules dealing with the creation of the Meghalaya Biodiversity Board and Biodiversity Management Committees which may perform the following functions: (i) Lay down the procedure and guidelines to govern the activities provided under Section 23 of the Act. (ii) Advise the State Government on many matters concerning conservation of bio-diversity, sustainable use of its components and fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the use of biological resource and knowledge. (iii)Provide technical assistance and guidance to the departments of the State Government. (iv)Regulate by granting of approvals or otherwise requests for commercial utilization or bio-survey and bio-utilization of any biological resource by Indian Nationals. (v) Facilitate updating and implementations of State Bio-diversity Strategy and Action Plan. (vi) Commission studies and sponsor investigations and research.
