These Regulations shall apply to any generator of medical waste; any transporter of medical waste; and any other relevant person. A generator of medical waste is obliged to have in place a system to ensure the proper handling, storage, treatment and disposal of medical waste. The requirements of the system are listed in Regulation 5, including but not limited to: methods of treatment and disposal of medical waste; mechanisms for proper recording and tracking of medical waste and for quick reporting of contamination; and an emergency plan that addresses emergencies caused by contamination. The obligations imposed by these Regulations shall be in addition to those imposed by the Hazardous Waste Regulations and any other law in force in Belize. These Regulations shall be administered and enforced by the Chief Environment Officer and the Department of the Environment.
