Abstract These Measures are enacted in order to promote widespread applications of radioisotopes and radiation technologies, to strengthen management for radioactive wastes and spent radiation sources arising from these activities and to protect the environment and public health. The Measures consist of 44 articles divided into 9 Chapters: General provisions (I); Classification of radioactive wastes (II); Responsibilities of the waste generator (III); Collection and transportation of radioactive waste for storage (IV); Management of the urban radioactive waste repository (V); Management of supervision and monitoring (VI); Fee collection (VII); Rewards and punishments (VIII); Supplementary provisions (IX). The waste generator shall take measures to minimize the generation amount and volume of radioactive waste. Before disposal of radioactive waste in the urban radioactive waste repository, the waste generator shall collect, package and store the waste according to requirements specified in articles 14 to 16. Transportation of radioactive waste shall use specially designed vehicles with safety installation and in compliance with radiation protection requirements. Waste generators who transfer radioactive wastes to the urban radioactive waste repository shall pay the expenses for transportation and storage. Full text English/Chinese
