The Authority is established as a body corporate and shall be managed by a Board of Directors. It shall be the function of the Authority to administer and enforce all matters relating to merchant shipping and seamen for which the Minister charged with responsibility for merchant shipping is responsible under the laws in force in the Cayman Islands. The Authority shall, among other things, provide shipping registration services, and maintain a register of ships; carry out survey and inspection and documentation and certification of all ships on the register; monitor in respect of all ships on the register compliance with applicable requirements of international conventions relating to shipping; carry out port state control; and investigate into marine casualties.
