Abstract This Order lays down the establishment, organization and operation of the Accreditation Directorate within the Malta Standards Authority. The Directorate shall act as the only recognised accreditation body in Malta. The Order also specifies the fields in which accreditation is required and regulates its relationship with those Regulations which provide for accreditation. The Directorate shall accredit testing and calibration laboratories, certification bodies, and inspection bodies and carry out other related functions specified in article 3. It shall keep a register of accredited bodies. There is further established a Accreditation Advisory Board, which shall provide technical advice to the Head of the Directorate and examine accreditation proposals submitted to the Directorate (art. 5) and a Accreditation Appeals Board, which shall hear and decide upon appeals against decisions of the Accreditation Directorate.
