Abstract

This Act provides for the protection, conservation and development of fisheries in the State of Maharashtra. The State Government may apply specific rules to any private waters with the consent in writing of the owner and of persons having exclusive right of fishing activity therein. Such rules may prohibit or regulate the following matters: erection and use of fixed engines; construction, temporary or permanent, of weirs, dams and bunds; dimension, size of mesh and kind of nets to be used and the mode of using them; use of more than one method of catching fish at one time prohibit the destruction of fish by gun, bow, arrow, as well as, deposit or discharge in any waters other substance likely to cause water pollution; prohibit the throwing into any water of any solid or liquid waste which may be harmful to fish; prohibit fishing except under a licence and regulate the grant of such licences, the fees payable therefor and the conditions to be inserted therein; prescribe the seasons during which the killing or taking or sale of fish of any prescribed species, shall be prohibited; prohibit all fishing in any specified waters for a specified period.
