Abstract

This Subpart of Part 600 of the Code of Federal Regulations regulates foreign fishing in U.S. waters under the Magnuson-Stevens Act. In particular, it imposes obligations of foreign fishing vessels (FFV) with respect to, among other things: fishing vessel permits; compliance with the Magnuson-Stevens Act, the applicable Governing International Fishery Agreement (GIFA), this Subpart, and any permit issued under the Magnuson-Stevens Act and this Subpart; reporting on activities; vessel and gear identification; facilitation by FFV of enforcement; recordkeeping; bycatch of prohibited species; interference with other fisheries. These Regulations also concern resolution of disputes on catch assessments, assignment of U.S. observers to FFV’s, allocation and Total allowable level of foreign fishing, various offences, applicability of this Subpart to Canadian Albacore Fishing Vessels off the West Coast, and specific rules applicable to Northwest Atlantic Ocean fishery and Pacific albacore fishery.
