Abstract

These By-Laws apply within the Lilongwe City Council area. They prohibit the establishment of food business without getting authorization on the premises as well as getting a food licence. The By-Laws make extensive provisions on the application for the issuing and re-issuing of food licences. The law allows for Health Officers and other authorized officers to enter into food business premises to carry out inspections and examinations on the food and the persons involved in the business. The law makes specifications on the premises where the food business is carried out. These range from specifications on ventilation and lighting, hygiene and sanitary standards, requirements on water supply in the premises, etc.
