Abstract This Legal Framework establishes the basic legislation on protected areas. It consists of 52 articles, specifying the requirements to be satisfied in order to preserve flora and wildlife ecosystems and to manage forestry resources. It concerns protected areas classification and creates the Protected Areas' Council under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (specifying its competencies and composition). It lays down the conditions to be satisfied in order to obtain an authorization for forest exploitation (including fees to be paid). Sanctions and penalties are prescribed for unauthorized activities. Full text Portuguese
