Article 3 lists the principles of protection of protected species and communities including territorial protection and special projects to protect species that are in danger of becoming extinct. A list of rare fauna, flora and funghi shall be included in the Red Book of Lithuania which shall be comprised and administered by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (art. 4). There are extensive provisions relating to the regulation and control of protection of the protected species and communities (Chapter III). The Ministry of Environmental Protection shall implement state control of protected species and communities (art. 16). The protection requirements of protected species and communities must correspond to the international agreements signed by the Republic of Lithuania.
