The task of the Institute is above all to ensure the discharge of effluent waste water produced in the area of the Free and Hanseatic Town Hamburg. Furthermore, it is also in part responsible for the protection against disaster control. The Senate may assign to it other tasks connected with the above-mentioned activities.
