Abstract

This Law on the Control of Communicable Diseases, consisting of 20 articles, lists in the Annex the covered communicable diseases. The Law deals with (i) procedures to be followed in case of report of a person infected or suspected of being infected; (ii) procedures to be followed in case of diseases transmitted from animals to humans; (iii) public medical treatment received in accordance with the rules and procedures specified by the Minister of Health; (iv) confidentiality of data and information relating to the person infected; (v) information at the border crossing authorities in case of person infected coming to the Sultanate; (vi) procedures in case of entry from areas where a communicable disease is spread; (vii) isolation in hospitals or places determined by the Ministry; (viii) protection of food and beverage from people infected with a communicable disease; (ix) taking of samples by the Ministry from those infected or from those who come into contact with them; (x) appointments and procedures for vaccination, also compulsory if required; (xi) powers of authorized representatives of the Ministry of Health in terms of entry in private places, conducting the necessary disinfection or vaccination, diagnosis for those who have come into contact with an infected person, or for the purpose of controlling insects and rodents; (xii) exceptional authority reserved to the Ministry to protect the country from the outbreak of the epidemic in case of the emergence of any epidemic disease threatening public health; (xiii) offences in case of violation of the provisions of this Law.
