The agency is established to supervise observation of environmental regulations and monitoring the condition of the environment. Article 2 lists the principal purposes of the State Inspectorate for Environmental Protection including supervision of adherence to environmental provisions, protecting the environment from pollution and participation in investment project proceedings. There are detailed provisions relating to inspection duties by the State Inspectorate for Environmental Protection including the authorization to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental protection facilities and the technical solutions employed (art. 9).
