Abstract

The present Law lays down provisions relating to hunting and protection of wild-living mammals and birds in the Canton of Solothurn. It also contains enforcement regulations pertaining to federal Ordinances and Laws. In particular, the Canton ensures the complete conservation and protection of a great number of indigenous species and their living space, such as mammals and birds, as well as threatened species. The sovereign right of hunting belongs to the Canton. It grants hunting licences and leases of hunting grounds ensuring the appropriate use thereof. Furthermore, the Canton issues regulations dealing with prevention and compensation of damages caused by wild animals. The territory of a township forms a single hunting ground; however, the territories of several townships may be united or divided as the case may be. A commission ad hoc is appointed to assess the value of hunting grounds to be granted for a period of 8 years. Hunting grounds are granted in lease only to members of hunting associations. The text consists of 47 articles divided into 14 chapters as follows: General provisions (I); Hunting grounds (3); Lease of hunting grounds (3); Persons entitled to hunting (4); Hunting activities (5); Limitation of hunting activities (6); Protected animals (7); Protection against damage caused by wild animals (8); Compensation for damage caused by wild animals (9); Information, formation and research (10); Financing (11); Penalties (12); Enforcement of the present Law (13); Transitional and final provisions (14).
