Abstract

China is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which states that international seabeds and their resources are the common property of mankind. The purpose of this Law is to regulate exploration and development activities of resources in deep seafloor areas, promote deep sea scientific research and technology, resource investigation, marine environmental protection, so as to ensure the sustainable use of deep seabed resources and maintain the common interests of mankind. The Text consists of 29 Articles divided into 7 Chapters: General Provisions (I); Exploration and Exploitation (II); Environmental Protection(III); Science and Technology Research and Resource Investigation(IV); Inspection and Supervision (V); Legal Responsibilities (VI); Supplementary Provisions (VII).
