Abstract

This Law provides for special protection of greenery and state forest fund located within the city of Tbilisi and its adjacent territories. The Law consists of three chapters: Rules for protection of forest and forest land within the city of Tbilisi and adjacent territories (Chapter I); Rules for compensation of damage caused to the environment as a result of damage, destruction and uprooting of green plantations within the city of Tbilisi and adjacent territories (Chapter II); and Transitional and final provisions (Chapter III). The Law states that privatization and change of categories of state forest fund and forest land of the state forest fund located within the city of Tbilisi and adjacent territories are prohibited. The following types of activity in the said state forest fund and the land are prohibited: a) construction except for special construction operations; b) cutting trees for the purpose of timber extraction except for cutting seasoned wood, dying and powdered wood; c) pursuing plantation nurseries; and e) issuing of permits for hunting operations.
