Abstract

This Law adopts the Red List of endangered wild fauna and flora, and the Red Book which contains data related to status, habitats, area of population, number, place and conditions of reproduction of species included in the Red List. The Law consists of 14 chapters: General provisions (I); Distinguishing the competences pertaining to the Red List and the Red Book (II); Rights and obligations of individuals and legal entities pertaining to the Red List and the Red Book (III); Protection of endangered species (IV); Status of endangered species (V); Inventory of endangered species, monitoring system and restoration efforts (VI); Capture of endangered wild fauna and flora species (extracting from the natural environment) (VII); Protection and restoration efforts of endangered species (VIII); State control and supervision of protection of endangered species (IX); Compensation of damages (X); Liability for violating the Law on the Red List and the Red Book (XI); International agreement and accord of Georgia pertaining to the Red List and the Red Book (XII); Transitional provisions (XIII); and Final provisions (XIV). The scope of the Law is to ensure protection and reproduction of endangered and protected wild flora and wild fauna species present on the national territory. Protected and endangered species shall be posted under protection of the state. Hunting, fishing, removal in any way or form from their natural environment of the aforesaid species, and also destruction of their natural habitats, shall be strictly prohibited.
