Abstract This Law consisting of 9 articles aims at rationalizing the use of water and conserving water resources, according to the a specific timetable, through the development of a plan for a modern irrigation. The transition to modern irrigation is mandatory in areas approved by the High Committee chaired by the Prime Minister and with the membership of the President of the General Union of Peasants. Main tasks of the Committee are (i) approve the annual plan of the national program to switch to modern irrigation, follow its implementation and take the necessary decisions in case of difficulties; and (ii) approve the areas to be irrigated areas with modern techniques on the proposal of the Technical Committee, headed by the Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform. Furthermore, a sub-committee chaired by the Governor is formed in each Governorate. The investors of the water resources located within the areas specified by the Minister's decision have a period of three months from the date of publishing the decision to implement the obligations under the provisions of this Law.
