Abstract This Law regulates relations in the sphere of ensuring food security and determines the main guidelines of state policy in this sphere. The basis of the economic policy of the Republic of Armenia in the field of ensuring food security is to ensure the right of citizens to good nutrition and avoid hunger in accordance with the norms of international law (art. 5). The basic directions of state policy in the sphere of ensuring food security shall be: (a) stimulation of local production of basic foodstuffs; (b) ensuring quality of foodstuffs; (c) formation of state food reserves; (d) regulation of food market; and (e) balance between local food production and import of foodstuffs. The main tasks of the Government shall be: (a) to ensure accessibility of foodstuffs for the population; (b) to ensure food safety; and (c) formation, storage and replenishment of state food reserves.
