Abstract This Law establishes legal grounds for regulating, unification, use, registration and protection of geographic indication and re-naming geographic objects and geographic indications that make part of national cultural and historical heritage, except for cases, pertaining to the competence of local self-government. The Act consists of 5 Sections divided into 16 articles: (1) general provisions; (2) competence of state bodies in the sphere of geographic indications; (3) state regulation; (4) liability; and (5) conclusive provision. Geographic indications shall be named in Armenian language but in the documents for international use geographic indications shall be ytanscribed in Latin characters. Geographic names and indications shall be subject to compulsory state registration. Geographic indications in the Republic of Armenia shall be protected by the state.
