Abstract

This Law establishes the procedure for the protection of the national electric energy system from transmission of nuclear energy from third countries insecure against risks, assesses the status of such nuclear power plants and the threats they pose to the national security of Lithuania, the environment and public health. The acknowledgement of a nuclear power plant as insecure shall be assessed in third countries closer than 100 kilometers to the national border of Lithuania. Nuclear power plants shall be considered insecure in case of the outbreak of emergencies or nuclear and radiological accidents that pose risks to humans and environment. Cumulative electricity power capacities operating in the energy system of the Republic of Lithuania shall receive electric power from non-hazardous nuclear power plants in third countries to meet the electricity storage needs of the national power plants.
