Abstract This Law ensures state protection of national heritage products , creates conditions for the preservation and dissemination of the accumulated experience of traditional crafts, gives it modern significance, defines the principles of classification of national heritage products, the classification of traditional crafts, the certification of national heritage products and the certification of craftsmen of traditional craftsmanship, creating for national heritage product developers favorable conditions for the promotion of the national heritage products, trade and facilitation of public access thereto, establishes the principles and forms of state support in this sphere to the extent that it is not regulated by other laws of the Republic of Lithuania. National heritage foodstuffs shall include collection and produce of mushrooms, plants or parts thereof performed in traditional ways and also traditional breeds of animals according to historically established practices and certified in accordance with the established procedure. National heritage produce shall be labelled with a figurative sign. National heritage produce shall be subject to mandatory classification and state protection, guaranteed by the Government and by the Ministry of Agriculture. The tasks of state protection of national heritage products are: (a) to determine the preservation, popularization, creation, implementation and promotion of principles and priorities; (b) to determine the National Heritage Product Classifier, Compendium of Traditional Crafts; (c) to promote the development of traditional crafts, ensure the creation of national heritage products, realization and popularization in centers, towns, villages and countryside of ethnographic regions in tourist homesteads; and (d) to provide state support for the preservation, creation, realization and popularization of national heritage products; and (e) to promote the creation and activity of associations of national heritage product developers. State protection of national heritage products is ensured by the following institutions: (a) Government of the Republic of Lithuania; (b) Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania and public institution Rural Business and Market Development Agency; and (c) municipal institutions. National heritage products are divided into the following main groups: (a) Group I – traditional products; (b) Group II – plants and animals of traditional varieties or their products, natural goods and products; and (c) Group III – traditional services, traditional fairs.
