Abstract

This Law establishes and regulates organizational conditions and forms of implementation of the professional activity of a veterinarian, as well as the creation, organization of activities and functioning of the Board of Veterinarians of the Republic Moldova. The provisions of this Act do not apply to veterinarians appointed for government positions in the state veterinary and sanitary services. Veterinarian shall be intended any person who is a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, a foreign citizen or stateless person holding an integrated diploma of higher education in the field of veterinary medicine, issued by higher education institution of the Republic of Moldova, or a document on education obtained abroad, which is recognized and whose equivalence is officially established in the Republic of Moldova. The activities of a veterinarian include: (a) veterinary medicine aimed at maintaining health and well-being of animals; (b) control of harmlessness and safety of products of animal origin; (c) veterinary laboratory diagnostics; (d) supervision of the safety of animal feed; (e) identification, registration and tracing of animals; (f) prescribing, issuing, retail trade, application of veterinary drugs, raticides and disinfectants; (g) control of the safety and effect of veterinary medicinal products on animals of drugs, cosmetic, hygiene products, disinfectants, additives and other products intended for animals; and (h) participation in the process of veterinary authorization of objects of economic entities; and (i) basic and applied genetic research of animals. The activity of a veterinarian is not a business activity. This Law consists of VII Sections divided into 50 Articles. Section I lays down general provisions. Section II regards veterinarians, their rights and duties. Section III regards Collegium of veterinarians. Section IV regards continuous professional training of veterinarians. Section V regards revenues and expenses. Section VI regards disciplinary liability of veterinarians. Section VII lays down conclusive and transitional provisions.
